Carn Llechart Trail (download here)
This trail rises high above Pontardawe to visit ancient burial sites and to one of the loneliest chapels. This can be walked as an extension of the Cwmdu Glen Trail and the total round trip would cover approx 16 miles. Please be aware that the weather on the hill can be unpredictable and be prepared for wet, cold and muddy, slippery ground.

Follow this trail from the heart of Pontardawe, up a wooded gorge with a cascading river and waterfall to the site of an old mill. Discover the remains of an estate wich was once the site of the Gilbertson’s grand house and garden. From here they dominated Pontardawe’s steel industry bringing jobs and wealth to the valley.
Gellionnen Chapel Trail (download here)
Starting from a colliery site, follow a bridle way which has been used for centuries, to visit an ancient white chapel on the mountain. From the chapel there are views to Swansea Bay. This walk can be a continuation of the Trebanos Trail or walked from the chapel in a loop.
Industrial Trail (download here)
The Swansea Canal once went from Abercraf to Swansea transporting iron, coal, lime and other goods to the industries and communities of the valley . Follow a surviving section to explore more of the industrial legacy of Pontardawe, see how nature is recovering and if lucky, you may catch the blue of a kingfisher.
Llangiwg Church Trail (download here)
From park, to woodland, to an ancient church high above the town with views out over the mountains, the trail follows in the footsteps of generations making their way to their weekly worship. This trail takes in many of the childhood places of international singer Mary Hopkin who grew up in Pontardawe and shot to fame in the 60’s with hit singles including ‘Those Were the Days’.

From the centre of Pontardawe this gentle walk guides you through important heritage sites in the town. From the canal, historical buildings and along the river, this trail will encourage exploration with easy access from the town centre. The trail finishes up in the town with many cafes and shops to enjoy.
Trebanos Trail (download here)
Follow this trail from the heart of Pontardawe, up a cascading river to a church, then along an abandoned railway and climb wooded paths to the remnants of a thriving colliery. This area is rich in industrial heritage and this trail will give you an opportunity to discover the legacy of the area and the people who worked there.
